Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto says she has received a new death threat. But she will start campaigning in Pakistani cities in the next couple days, avoiding mass rallies.
Five days after the suicide bombing that killed over 130 at her homecoming procession in Karachi, Bhutto says her lawyer received a letter from an unidentified "friend of al-Qaida" threatening to slaughter her "like a goat."
The former prime minister says those making the threats are afraid that her party, the Pakistani People' Party will return to power, bringing democracy to the country.
Bhutto says after discussions, her party has decided she should avoid staging mass rallies because of the risk of suicide and roadside bombings but will still address public meetings.
Benazir Bhutto said, "There should be a public rally, some of them felt that no, there should be just public meetings, where people gather and we go at the end of it to address the public. However the party is deciding that I should go from Karachi to Islamabad, Lahore or Larkana in the next couple of days."
The PPP leader returned from eight years in exile on Thursday to campaign for parliamentary elections due in January. Months of talks with President Pervez Musharraf could see them working together in the next government.
