The foreign ministers of China, Russia, and India have met in northeastern China. The trilateral meeting took place in the city of Harbin.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said cooperation between China, Russia, and India has made significant progress since the foreign ministers of the three sides held their first meeting in 2002. The trilateral mechanism has become an important platform for enhancing mutual political trust and expanding cooperation between the 3 countries.
Yang stressed that China, Russia, and India are both neighbors and strategic partners. Their cooperation can thus promote peace and prosperity in the region.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee agreed with Yang on the significant role played by the trilateral meetings.
They say cooperation is not targeted at any other country or organization, and the three sides wish to do more to foster peace and prosperity in the rest of the world.
The foreign ministers also agreed to deepen collaboration in fighting climate change, terrorism, and cross-border smuggling.
Following the meeting, the three ministers released a joint communique in a press briefing.
Earlier on Wednesday, Yang and Lavrov also held a bilateral meeting, during which the two sides vowed to enhance pragmatic cooperation and push forward ties.
