As a participant in the competition, he pays close attention to electricity and water saving details. He has changed all the bulbs into energy saving ones. Switches are frequently turned off. And air-conditioning temperature hovers around 28 degrees, even during the height of summer.
Resident Gao Hang said, "There's a clear reduction in my power and water bills after I take these saving measures. My latest electricity bill saw a 40 percent drop compared with the same period last year. I haven't received my latest water bill yet. But I estimate it will be another 50 percent lower. "
1,000 families in 20 communities throughout Shanghai have participated in the electricity and water saving competition. The first round lasts three months, through the end of December. During this period, organisers will hold regular training sesssions to teach participants electricity and water saving tips.
