China has launched a new remote sensing satellite on a Long March carrier rocket.
The satellite was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in North China's Shanxi Province on Monday shortly before 7 am local time. The 2,700-kilogram satellite will be used for scientific research, surveying land resources and estimating crop yields as well as for disaster prevention and relief. The launch was the 104th mission of China's Long March series of rockets since 1970 when a Long March-One rocket successfully sent China's first satellite, Dongfanghong-One, into space.
