China to take new measures to save energy

The state environmental protection authority says China will earmark more funds and promote new technology in its nationwide campaign to cut emissions and save energy.
Authorities will promote energy-saving housing, transport and power generation. The central government will build a comprehensive system to monitor the energy consumption of major industrial companies. More measures to encourage companies to use energy-saving technologies are also on the way.

In the first half of the year, China saw a decrease in emissions of major polluting chemicals, like sulfur dioxide. But the faster growth rate of the heavy industrial sector means great challenges remain for energy efficiency and the environment.
