Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations have decided to attend next week's US-sponsored Mideast peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland.

But the Saudi foreign minister insists he will not allow "theatrics" like handshakes with Israeli officials, saying the gathering must make serious progress.

Participation by Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal is a key US goal to show strong Arab support for the conference.

Saudi Arabia had balked at saying whether it would attend and at what level, seeking assurances Israel would negotiate on key issues.

It appears Syria will also attend, but Arab League chief Amr Moussa says "final arrangements" have yet to be made.
