Abbas opens to Hamas talks

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has set conditions for Hamas, and has called for dialogue amid ongoing violence.

Abbas says he is willing to hold talks with Hamas on the condition it first relinquishes control of the Gaza Strip.

Speaking a day after Hamas leader Ismil Haneya renewed a call for reconciliation talks, Abbas says Hamas sabotaged the Palestinian struggle for an independent state when it violently seized control of Gaza in June.
