No human-to-human transmission confirmed in new China bird flu cases

China's health authorities say no human-to-human transmission has been confirmed in two human cases of bird flu.

Officials say the means of transmission in the cases involving two family members remain unknown. The epidemiological investigation shows the father could have become infected through close contact with his son. But it is also possible both men were either infected by the same virus source or separately from different sources. An investigation is underway.

The 24 year old man died December 2nd. His father is in stable condition and showing signs of improvement.

The latest cases have brought the number of confirmed human infections of bird flu in China to 27 since 2003, with 17 deaths.
