Israeli tanks and bulldozers have pushed into southern Gaza Strip, killing five militants. An Israeli aircraft has killed another in northern Gaza.
An AP report says it's the widest operation in the Gaza Strip since Hamas forces took control from Fatah in June.
The Israeli army says the attack is a routine operation against Palestinian militants. A Hamas spokesman says Israel is wrong for thinking such an operation could weaken the Palestinian resistance.
Hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets for a funeral procession for two of the militants. The violence comes right before Israel and the Palestinians' first formal peace talks since 2001.
Israel's Foreign Ministry says the talks are due to be held on Wednesday.
