Several killed in blast at rally for Bhutto

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Several people were killed in a suspected suicide blast Thursday at an election campaign rally for former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto near the capital Islamabad, local media reported.

The powerful explosion occurred shortly after Bhutto, leader o fthe Pakistan People's Party left the rally at the Liaquat Bagh park in Rawalpindi, some 30 km south from Islamabad.

A private TV claimed that some 20 people were killed in the attack.

According to previous reports, at least four supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were killed earlier Thursday when unidentified gunmen fired at his party's procession in Rawalpindi.
