Pakistan's Interior Ministry says Bhutto was killed when she hit her head as she ducked back inside her vehicle.

The Ministry also says intelligence indicates al Qaeda was behind Thursday's assassination.

The Interior Ministry spokesman said on Friday that Bhutto was not shot, nor was she hit by shrapnel from the suicide blast.

He says she was killed when the force of the explosion crashed her head against a lever on the sun-roof of her vehicle.

The spokesman also says Pakistan has "intelligence intercepts" that indicate al Qaeda leader Baitullah Mehsud is behind her assassination.

Authorities had recorded an intercept on Friday morning in which Mehsud had congratulated his people for carrying out the attack.
