Japan adheres to One China Policy

China's Foreign Ministry says China welcomes Japan's clear stance on the Taiwan issue.

During a meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said Japan would give no support to the claims of "one China, one Taiwan", "Taiwan independence", or Taiwan authorities' attempts to join the United Nations and seek UN membership through a "referendum".

Fukuda says Japan is clearly aware that the Taiwan issue concerns China's fundamental interests. He also says Japan will not support any move to change the status quo of the cross-Strait relationship.
