In Kenya, people from Nairobi's impoverished neighborhoods have received food from a relief center set up by volunteer workers. This follows violent clashes after a disputed election that led to food shortages in and around the capital.

In Kenya, people from Nairobi''s impoverished neighborhoods have received food from a relief center set up by volunteer workers.

Church workers, students and other volunteers have set up a make-shift food distribution center in Nairobi's Jamuhuri Park.

Some shops in the capital started to reopen on Saturday but those living in poor areas of the city are still facing food shortages.

Widespread unrest continues across Kenya after last week's disputed presidential vote led to days of violence.

And aid agencies say the instability is affecting other countries in the region.

A spokesperson for the World Food Programme says the recent insecurity is affecting truck shipments of aid leaving the port city of Mombasa for destinations across the region.
