Special Report:   Pakistan's Bhutto assassinated

The Pakistan People's Party is calling for an inquiry by the United Nations into the death of assassinated leader Benazir Bhutto.

The party's Information Secretary Sherry Rehman says the world body's intervention is important for the whole region's stability.

She also claims there are limitations on the investigation being carried out by Britain's Scotland Yard.

She says that's because the British investigators are hampered by a lack of forensic evidence from the assassination.

The party has voiced deep suspicions over the motives and identities of Bhutto's assassins.

Pakistan's government has blamed al Qaeda. It also claims Bhutto was killed when the suicide-bomb blast threw her head against the sun-roof lever of the vehicle in which she was standing.
