Doctor Basu is a fan of China and he brought back this tie from a trip to China last year. It has a print featuring the famous Analects of Confucius.
Doctor Basu has always had close contact with Chinese nationals living in India. He developed his great interest in China from reading the travel journals of Indian tourists. He is now active in exchange programs between the two countries and has already visited China three times.
Basu says he hopes Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's trip to China will boost bilateral cooperation in the sectors of education, culture and technology.
Doctor Basu also plans to open a Chinese language course at his institute...and he says there will be a focus on academic exchanges with China. He may soon be able to read the characters on his tie.
