The Israeli government says more shipments will come in the coming days.

Israel says the blockade is in response to a sharp increase in rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are continuing a protest, saying the Israeli concession was not satisfactory.

Ahmed Bahar, Deputy Speaker, Palestinian Legislative Council, said, "Allowing fuel and medicine into Gaza is not enough and we reject it. We want to break the siege of the Palestinian people. We want to open the terminals, especially the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, to allow patients out who die a slow death every day."

On Tuesday, Israeli tanker trucks pumped 700-thousand litres of fuel across the Nahal Oz border crossing for power generation in Gaza. Other trucks delivered cooking gas, and medicines to Gaza later in the day.

Suad Tarizi, Gas Station Owner, said, "This is very little quantity and it's not enough to restart the plant again because it needs more than 200-thousand litres to start again and it needs more than 6-8 hours to start producing electricity."

At a joint news conference with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in London, Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said the Israeli closure of the Gaza Strip is unacceptable for residents of the territory.

Salam Fayyad, Palestinian Prime Minister, said, "Life has become completely unbearable, and that situation should not be allowed to continue in the way it has been going our idea is to assume control and manage the Palestinian sides of the crossing in Gaza if Israel were to open them."
