Kenya opposotion calls off protests

Kenya's opposition has called off further planned protests after talks with former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Annan is the latest international figure to try to intervene in the standoff between President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Kenya's opposition has announced it will not hold planned protests at the request of Kofi Annan.
The former UN secretary general is now seeking to negotiate an end to Kenya's bloody political crisis.
Annan has held talks with members of the opposition Orange Democratic Movement, led by presidential challenger Raila Odinga.
Odinga claims the December the 27th election result was rigged by President Mwai Kibaki. At least 650 people died in violence following the poll.
Both sides in the dispute have accused each other of being behind the violence with the government and the opposition each saying they will take the other to the International Criminal Court in The Hague,the Netherlands.
Odinga met Annan after attending a funeral for 28 people the opposition say, were shot and killed by police in Nairobi's Kibera slum during protests over the election.
Meanwhile, thousands have arrived at the Red Cross camp set up on a show ground in the battered town of Eldoret.
Aid workers have been providing maize, split peas, cooking oil and high protein supplements.
