U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Kucinich to drop out

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich announced on Thursday that he would terminate his second failed bid for the White House.

The House Representative from Ohio told a local newspaper, Cleveland's Plain Dealer, that he would formally announce his decision to drop out of the race on Friday.

"I will be announcing that I'm transiting out of the presidential campaign," Kucinich said.

Kucinich, 61, is known for his proposal to establish a U.S. Department of Peace and push for impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney, but he has received very little support in states that held earlier primary or caucuses.

He started to work in Congress from 1996, and was noted as an outspoken liberals, opposing international trade agreements and protested during a meeting of the World Trade Organization in Seattle.

After leaving the battlefield for presidential candidacy, Kucinich is expected to meet challenge in the Democratic congressional primary on March 4.
