Obama wins South Carolina primary

US Democratic candidate Barack Obama has easily won South Carolina's bitterly contested presidential primary.

With nearly all the votes counted, Obama has doubled Hillary Clinton's vote total, winning 55 percent to her 27 percent. Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards finished third with 18 percent.
