Palestinian medical officials say a Palestinian teenager was killed by Israeli troops during a raid into the West Bank city of Bethlehem.

The Israeli military confirmed that soldiers were in Bethlehem on Monday looking for suspected militants.

The soldiers initially used non-lethal riot dispersal arms but resorted to live fire when the demonstrators threw stones and large building blocks at them.

A 15-year-old was shot dead. Israel and the Palestinians renewed long-stalled peace talks two months ago at an international Mideast conference.

But the talks did not involve Hamas, which wants a role in running the Gaza-Egypt border after toppling the border wall last week.
