Special Report: Winter Storm ReliefIn Anhui Province, highway transport is now largely back to normal. Senior officials and soldiers from the local People's Liberation Army are clearing snow to help traffic flow smoothly.
Ma Xinmin, deputy chief of staff of Anhui Provincial Military Command, said, "We're relocating people and providing them with food and water, as well as basic medical supplies. To deal with this sudden storm, we follow Chairman Hu's instructions from the Central Military Commission strictly. At the provincial level, more than 10,000 active military personnel and 40,000 reservists have contributed to the relief efforts."
Heavy snow has left only one lane open. It has also covered the emergency lane, hindering prompt rescue.
Ice in the middle of the road is dangerous even during the day. And passengers are grateful that the PLA is always there to help.
The soldiers cleared 20 kilometers of the emergency lane in four hours, but their work is still very much an on-going process.
