China ensures food supplies

Heavy snow has affected food supplies in some parts of China. And the country has been trying its best to ensure that markets remain fully-stocked.

Cangshan County in Shandong Province is an important source of vegetable supplies for southern China. The county has launched an emergency bad-weather plan for food supplies. At eight o'clock in the morning each day, around 50 trucks loaded with vegetables head to cities in the region.

Guiyang City in Guizhou Province in southwest China has organized food supplies to markets and brought vegetables, eggs and poultry products to communities. So far there are plenty of vegetables and other foodstuffs in stock, and the public can buy them at an inexpensive price.

A shopper said, "Everything has been government-controlled, and the price is affordable."

In Hainan Province in southern China, cold weather hasn't been so severe. Trucks carrying unseasonal fruits and vegetables have continued to travel all over the country. Although transportation costs have increased, Hainan keeps sending over ten thousand tons of fruits and vegetables to many parts of the country everyday. The province also sends supplies by rail and air.

As the country's biggest wholesale market of eggs, Jinfeng Market in Hebei Province in the north has been making special efforts to transport goods. The market equips every vehicle to the south with de-icers and anti-skid devices, and makes sure the eggs stay fresh and undamaged. At least 300 tons of fresh eggs are sent out everyday, two-thirds of them going to Hunan, Hubei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in central and eastern China.
