Police killed four people as mobs set scores of houses and businesses ablaze in a western Kenyan city on Friday.
The latest round of violence followed the killing of opposition lawmaker David Too.
More than 800 have been killed and 300 000 forced from their homes in the month-long post election crisis.
Talks aimed at ending the crisis mediated by former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, resumed on Friday.
Annan's successor, Ban Ki-Moon is urging action.
Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, said, "My message to the people and government of Kenya is 'stop this violence and resolve all the issues - whatever the differences may be - through dialogue in a peaceful manner'."
The UN chief met with opposition leader Raila Odinga on Friday.
After the meeting, Odinga said he told Ban his party was ready to cooperate.
But president Mwai Kibaki has urged his rival to go to court to resolve the presidential election dispute.
Odinga says the election was rigged and has said he wants a new vote, while Kibaki has made clear he will not negotiate his position as president.
