HK pledges donations of over 2 mln HK dollars to battle weather crisis

The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions has donated 100,000 HK dollars to help aid the snow-battered regions in southern China. Representatives hosted a special ceremony on Friday.

So far, Hong Kong locals from all walks of life have pledged donations of more 2 million Hong Kong dollars. Also, Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen has expressed his sympathy to the people affected by the disaster. He also called on all Hong Kong compatriots to unite to aid the disaster-relief work.

Meanwhile, countries from around the world are paying attention to the heaviest snowfall in southern China in decades. The European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, has extended his condolences and solidarity to Chinese victims of terrible blizzards. And former Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk has donated 50,000 US dollars to China for disasters relief.
