The weather in southern China is improving, and railway services are gradually returning to normal. |
The main railway station in Changsha, the provincial capital, is now much calmer. But railway employees still can't relax. Despite trains continue to be delayed the situation there is much better. And the passengers are happy to be on their way home for the Lunar New Year celebrations.
A passenger said, "I am from Guanxi. The train was delayed for about half an hour. That's actually almost punctual, and anyway-- the employees are taking good care of us."
The trains have been over-crowed for more than two weeks so they now require a great deal of maintenance work. As power resumes along the railway line, more trains are entering the station and the maintenance staff are working long hours and hardly have enough time to talk to anyone.
A train chief said, "We can't guarantee that all trains are punctual but, as you can see, we are all trying our best."
The railway authorities in Hunan say measures have been taken to ensure trains depart and arrive on time.
