Kenya's political rivals have agreed to write a new constitution as part of a deal to end weeks of deadly post-election violence.

The move could allow for power-sharing.

Two days of secret talks will resume on Monday in Nairobi. A government spokesman says the feuding parties are expected to rewrite the constitution within a year.

Kenya's current constitution gives the president sweeping powers. A new constitution could allow for power-sharing or a prime minister's post.

This is the solution opposition leader Raila Odinga and President Mwai Kibaki have been pressed to adopt as a way to resolve their dispute.

The bloodshed since the December election has left more than a thousand people dead.
