Iran-US talks on Iraq security postponed

Iraq says Iran has postponed a fourth round of talks with the US on improving security in Iraq.

Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshiyar Zebari, says talks were to have been held in Baghdad on Friday, but were put off at the last minute. No reason has been given for the delay.

A US embassy official says it is increasingly likely Tehran does not want to hold the dialogue. Iranian officials have made no comment yet.

The US-Iranian security talks are one of the few forums in which officials from the two sides have direct contact.

US and Iranian officials met three times last year under this mechanism.
