Putin says bilateral trade was growing despite disputes existing between Russia and Ukraine.

Tymoshenko says she's confident economic cooperation will work.

Relations between the two countries have been rocky in recent years due to disputes over gas prices and Ukraine's closer ties with the West.

The latest gas debt issue was settled last Tuesday, when Putin and Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko reached a deal, avoiding a threatened cutoff in gas supplies.
