A main power line for the Three Gorges electricity network is back in action after being severed by snowstorms.

The line is linked to Jiangxi province in south China, and electricity is now reaching industry bases in the east.

The 500 kilovolt line was brought down during winter storms more than five weeks ago. Towers and transmission cables were also damaged. Production at factories along the east coast has returned to normal, and demand for power is soaring. The newly restored line will ease extra pressure on the electricity network.

And in Yunnan province in the country's southwest, more than 96 % of power lines have been repaired.
