This year's NPC plenary meeting comes at a special time. 2008 marks the 30th anniversary of China's opening up and reform, and its the Olympic year in Beijing. Deputies vow to use this opportunity to work hard for the country and its people.

NPC deputy Gao Bingliang said, "My major concern is how to make the balance between fast economic growth, and social and natural environments."

NPC deputy Pei Hongbin said, "My major concern is cutting emissions and saving energy. I will make my proposals on building a sustainable economy."

Meanwhile, organizers are striving to guarantee a smooth and successful meeting.

Translation of the meeting's documents into minority and foreign languages is underway.

This year's meeting will use environmentally-friendly buses for the first time in history to take deputies across the city.
