Mao Jinfang is one of the youngest deputies to the 11th NPC. The 28-year-old comes from a remote minority region in west Sichuan province.
Mao Jinfang, NPC Deputy, said, "This is the first time for me to be a deputy. I don't want to miss any chance to speak for my villagers. This time, I bring suggestions here on improving the rural infrastructure, like building more roads."
Mao is the only female official in her village. Her work focuses on helping local women raise awareness of their interests and rights.
Mao Jinfang, NPC Deputy, said, "I am young and I still have a lot to learn. As a deputy,I will waste no time, in my term, to work for improving the lives for local women. I hope all of them can have a better future."
A similar mission is shouldered by the older female deputy sitting beside Mao Jinfang. Cui Fuhua, also from Sichuan, is some twenty years older than Mao. She served as a deputy in the previous term.

Cui Fuhua, NPC Deputy, said, "During the 10th NPC, I raised many suggestions and I am happy that many of them have been heard and responded to. Women's opinions received equal attention and female deputies are now more capable and competent."
Among this year's nearly 3000 deputies, over a fifth are women, up than last term. They are a strong force for social development.
Cui Fuhua is an agricultural scientist. She says she will spare no effort, in her new term, to help farmers change their lives.
"Female deputies are working hard not only for women's rights and interests, but also for improving the lives of all people. Experts say on all major social issues and in state affairs, Chinese women are now speaking with a much louder voice and playing a more decisive role."
