That was the message at this morning's news conference held by the current National People's Congress session. The vice minister of the National Development Reform Commission, Xie Zhenhua, said that in 2008, China will continue to close down backward production facilities.
It will also encourage and support the development of the economy and promote recycling and reuse of renewable resources. National standards will be tightened for the discharge of pollutants in key waterways.
Officials say China's energy-consumption per unit of GDP in 2007 dropped by more than 3 percent.
