The protesters are demanding troops be brought home and accuse the US government of waging an illegal war.

Several demonstrations were held in Washington DC on Wednesday.

A war veterans group marched to the National Mall to protest what they say is an illegal occupation of Iraq.

James Gilligan, War Veteran, said, "Five years ago, President Bush stood on the aircraft carrier and said to everybody that the war in Iraq was done. But it's just not true, because I was in Iraq when he said that, and I know for a fact we were still being shot at, we were still being blown up."

Jim Bulgera, Protester, said, "I'm out here today as a veteran of the Vietnam war to do what I can to help the American people know that we're no longer fighting just wars. We're fighting wars for political and economic profit."
