Although the riots in Lhasa have ended, the city suffered a lot of damage and faces some challenges ahead. However, top officials are confident their city will recover soon.

Mayor of Lhasa Doje Cezhug said, "The riots have destroyed our efforts over the last few decades."

The areas hit by the unrest have returned to normal after firm measures taken by the local authorities. Late March in Lhasa should have been the beginning of the tourist season. But the riots have frightened tourists. Mayor Doje Cezhug says he is confident the effects won't last long.

The mayor says security will be strengthened in scenic spots, hotels and on transportation, and bigger promotions are being planned.
