Special Report:   2008 Beijing Olympic Games

Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang says the Beijing Olympics is a grand event both for China and for the whole world, and that the Games should not be politicized.

His comments came in response to French President Nicolas Sarkozy's suggestion that his country might boycott the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

Qin Gang has urged the international community to see the true face of the Dalai clique. He said the recent riots in Lhasa and other ethnic Tibetan areas had been masterminded by the Dalai clique.

In response to certain countries inviting the Dalai Lama to pay them a visit, Qin said the Dalai Lama is not a purely religious person, but an politician-in-exile who has long been engaged in separatist activities and in disrupting the national unity of China.

Qin added that more than 100 countries have shown their support of the way in which the Chinese government handled the unrest. And with the backing of the world, Qin said the Beijing Olympics will be a great success.
