MONTEVIDEO, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Any attempts by the Dalai clique to sabotage the Beijing Olympics by using the recent riots in Lhasa and other separatist activities are doomed to failure, said Vicente Rovetta, president of the Uruguay-China Cultural Integration Center, during an interview with Xinhua Wednesday.
Rovetta said the Dalai clique's accusation of "cultural genocide" is a lie, by which it is trying to mislead world opinion and continuing to take advantage of blind followers of the spiritual leader.
"Tibet is an autonomous province of China." Rovetta said, "The so-called movement for 'Tibet independence' is groundless. Any attempts to separate Tibet from China are doomed to fail."
He drew attention to some western media's biased coverage of the riots in Lhasa, for instance their presentation of video clips of protests against Chinese embassies by separatists as riots in the Tibetan capital.
Rovetta said schools in Lhasa were also attacked by mobs, adding, "No single government in the world will tolerate such violence."
"A boycott of the Beijing Olympic Games goes against mainstream world opinion and it holds little weight in international society," he emphasized, "the Beijing Olympics will be a success."
