A living Buddha of Songzanlin Lamaser, said, "From the perspective of religion, behavior like beating, smashing, looting, burning, and killing are strictly forbidden in Buddhist doctrine. I hope monks will concentrate on studying, abide by the law and regulations of the country, and follow the doctrines of Buddhist scripture."

The living Buddha said the rioters seriously violated the rules, especially a handful of monks who were involved in the riots.
