Iraqi troops have rescued a British journalist who was captured in Basra two months ago.

An Iraqi defense ministry spokesman said an army patrol conducting a search came under fire from the house where the journalist was being held.

During the exchange of fire, one of the gunmen was wounded and another captured as they tried to escape.

Butler was kidnapped along with his Iraqi interpreter while he was on an assignment for CBS. The interpreter was later released.
