The number of tour groups travelling to the Tibet Autonomous Region is increasing. Travel to the region was suspended after the March 14 riots in Lhasa.

Tour groups began arriving in Lhasa on Thursday. Travel agencies said the groups had booked before the riots. According to the Tibet Tourism Bureau, social order in the region is back to normal. They say hotels and restaurants are ready for the peak travel season.

Local tourism authorities say only domestic tour groups are currently allowed to enter Tibet. A date for foreign groups to return has not yet been set. Although the riots had a negative impact on Tibet's tourism, the number of travellers to the region reached more than 130-thousand in the first quarter, 11% more than during the same period last year.
