Hong Kong, the pearl of the east, has grown from a coastal village to a global financial center through more than a hundred years of hard work by the local people. Sailing, cycling, equestrian events, and table tennis are their favorite sports.

Hong Kong has participated in the Olympics since the 1952 games in Helsinki. In 1964, the flame of the Tokyo Olympics has arrived here. And in 1996, sailing athlete Li Lishan won the first Olympic gold medal for Hong Kong in the Atlanta Olympics.
