Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon have talked by phone about the earthquake.
Ban Ki-moon expressed sympathy for the Chinese people, and sent condolences for those who have been killed. He says he believes the people in the disaster areas will overcome the difficulties and rebuild their homeland. Ban says the UN will spare no efforts in supporting China's disaster relief and reconstruction work.
Yang says relevant departments are further assessing the damage caused by the quake.
