Special Report:   Strong quake jolts SW China

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao went to Guangyuan City in Sichuan Province. It took him three hours to get to Muyu Township in Qingchuan County, one of the worst-hit areas in Guangyuan City.

An official from the US Olympic Committee has expressed concern and sympathy for the victims of the recent earthquake in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, as the Chinese government and people struggle to overcome this tragedy.

Wen Jiabao went there to oversee rescue work and meet with survivors. Premier Wen called on disaster relief personnel to boldly confront difficulties and make necessary sacrifices, and do everything possible to rescue the people.

Premier Wen promised that the Party and the country would not neglect the remote quake-hit villages. He encouraged local residents to "rise from sorrow" and "help each other" to rebuild homes.

The premier has been in affected areas conducting relief work since Monday when the powerful quake hit.
