A special group of "psychological counselors" visited temporary shelters in the quake-ravaged city of Mianyang, Wednesday. They brought along some surprises and a little joy, to the hearts of children in the stricken region.
The stars of the sporting world were part of the first psychological relief team sent to Mianyang. The visit was organized by the China Red Cross Society. And the sports figures came along to inspire young quake victims to get back up on their feet.
Olympic table tennis champion, Deng Yaping, carried the spirit of athleticism to children. The event took place at a temporary school in the city, located inside a tent.
Besides providing relief from the psychological stress, relief efforts have brought in new sports facilities for the children to play.
There will be more sessions like these to help restore the psychological balance among these children, whose lives have been turned upside down.
The China Red Cross Society is expected to send another team to Mianyang City on Wednesday.
