Olympic torch relay kicks off in Shanghai

The Olympic torch relay made its run through Shanghai on Friday morning. It was carried by 208 torch bearers, including 4 heroes who have made great contribution to the relief work in Sichuan.

The relay route covered 200 kilometers and started at Shanghai museum, before passing several cultural landmarks and historical sites.

This leg of the Olympic Torch Relay has been scaled down and simplified. The organizing committee cancelled all of the literature and art performances as well as other planned activities. A few minutes of silence to mourn for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake was held before the torch relay started.
