Full-scale anti-epidemic work has gotten underway in Beichuan County after the threat from the Tangjiashan barrier lake was successfully removed. There have been no reports of outbreaks of diseases so far.

Soldiers from the Chengdu Chemical Defense Regiment have been busy disinfecting areas to prevent the spread of diseases.

A month after the earthquake, Beichuan County is almost deserted, with only ruins and rubble left.

Soldiers from the Chengdu Chemical Defense Regiment have been busy disinfecting areas to prevent the spread of diseases.

The regiment commander says roads to the downtown area are blocked by the runoff from Tangjiashan lake, including mud, sand and flotsam. So soldiers carrying up to 30 kilograms of epidemic prevention equipment must walk over two hours to the area.

And temperatures up to 34 degrees Celsius have made the work even more complicated. Some soldiers even fainted during the process.

Meanwhile, residents have all been relocated to open farmland to avoid aftershocks and mudslides.
