President Hu honors helicopter regiment for quake relief

President Hu Jintao has honored the Sichuan Area Military Command, calling them heroes of the earthquake relief effort.

The honor awarded to the regiment was the top honor of all the regiment members and all military members who participated in quake-relief missions, Xu Caihou, Vice  Chairman of the Central Military Commission, said at  the meeting.

Five crew members from the command died when their helicopter crashed during a quake relief mission. Hu Jintao said the command has accomplished its tasks, and he praised the soldiers' endurance, effectiveness and devotion.

Hu Jintao asked the army and armed police to learn from the command's spirited response, urging them to achieve success in the battle against the earthquake.
