Coastal cities are preparing for the arrival of Typhoon Fengshen, which has weakened to a tropical storm over the South China Sea.

Emergency response plans have been implemented along coastal lines with vessels ordered to return to harbor and monitoring of flood and landslide threats intensified.

The China meteorological administration warned the storm may hit the southern coastal area and the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday morning. Torrential downpours have already threatened dams and lakes in southern China since the rainy season started at the beginning of June. The arrival of Fengshen is putting more pressure on flood control work.
