More than 900,000 families are still living in tents and other temporary homes, and over 200,000 families are staying with relatives. Local residents are trying to finish building make-shift homes within a month for all those still in temporary tents.
The temporary homes can be lived in for 2 to 3 years. Each homeless family whose house collapsed or was badly damaged will get an allowance of 20,000 yuan to rebuild. 60 percent of the reconstruction work in the six worst-hit cities is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
