Special Report:   Shenzhou-7 Manned Space Flight

Space exploration requires international cooperation. And one example is the China Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Project, which was launched 20 years ago. As they followed the progress of the Shenzhou 7 mission, space scientists in the South American country shared China's excitement.

The Laboratory of Integration and Tests is the pride of Brazil's Space Technology Research Institute. It boasts the most advanced facilities for satellite research and development in South America. Its most valuable asset is the full-scale vacuum simulation system. Tests are being conducted in the facility for the third satellite of the China Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Project.

The cooperation project was launched in 1988. So far it has achieved a great deal, acquiring valuable data and imagery that can be useful for the fields of agriculture and forestry.

A leader of the project says he is deeply impressed by the success of China's Shenzhou 7 space mission.

Ricardo Cartaxo, Coordinator of China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite Project said "This is another major achievement in China's space project. The launch was very successful. Now the space work has also been carried out. That is stunning. China is a partner for us in space exploration. We're really proud of Shenzhou 7's achievements."

Marcos Pontes is Brazil's first astronaut. In 2006 he made a trip to the International Space Station aboard a Russian shuttle. He's thrilled to see China's latest success.

Marcos C. Pontes, Brazilian Astronaut said "Space programs have a charm of their own. It can unite different cultures and viewpoints. Although we have different backgrounds, we're striving for the same goal. We're making joint efforts for the solution of the same issue. That is the spirit of space exploration."

Marcos Pontes also said he hoped for more cooperation between China and Brazil.
