The statement contradicts an earlier UN assessment, which says millions of people in the country could go hungry.

A spokesman for South Korea's Unification Ministry said the DPRK made a decent harvest this year, citing South Korean officials who recently visited the country.

His comments came a day after the UN food agency called on donor countries, including South Korea, to provide urgent food aid to the DPRK.
